Happy Birthday Morning Coffee

October 29th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

If it’s one thing i’ve learned about friendships… It’s that loyalty and thoughtfulness is hard duo to come by.  Los Angeles can be a very transient city, with even friends you feel like you’ve known for years disappearing at the drop of a hat. So when you have this kind of friendship, especially a twenty three year one, you feel gratitude for all that you have accomplished… because long friendships are an accomplishment.
When I think of my long extraordinary friendship.  I think heart and soul, I think of countless thoughtful expressions, I think of unconditional love, I think how my spirit has grown and how my soul has deepened…  and I think of having morning coffee with a divine spirit who loves.  It awakens you.
Here’s a birthday poem to one of the most beautiful women born on this day ( Oct 29).

My Morning Coffee

Countless memories roaming this city free, wild and unknown

escaping, emerging, enlightening

souls deepen with each conversation

sips of

morning coffee

walks of sunlight

high above the sky

smiles and love beyond

my imagination.

so thoughtful and free,

and unconditional with me.

Here’s to a magical and beautiful birthday year my dearest soul sista Sha.

Welcome to one of the best years of your life….  says the girl who’s a year older than you.

Be Kind to the Planet says Kind Kreme

May 11th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I have to say I am a tad envious of folks living in north hollywood these days. I’ve been having serious cravings for Kind Kreme… a little ice Kremery shop I recently discovered. Why hasn’t a place like this opened on the westside?
A few weeks ago a friend turned me on to a little goldmine nearing the Cahuenga pass. For years the valley seemed far behind the LA scene in offering up some good-for-you dessert joints. Well now… the valley has something to talk about!! especially for those who are craving a little decadence but wanting a guilt-less kind of treat.
Kind Kreme is a handcrafted Raw vegan ice kreme parlor that is all about sustainability and plant life. their recipes are enriched with low glycemic sweeteners like agave. and a secret medicinal root vegetable called Maca, said to be- a “Peruvian ginseng,” that grows in the mountain plateaus of the Peruvian Andes. It is rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals, and has been used as a traditional source of both food and medicine by indigenous people since the time of the Incas. Tart Blueberry, Ginger Basil, Banana Chocolate Swirl are ones to try, but I feel confident that any flavor is worth a taste.  Kind Kreme is also serving up shakes, smoothies, juices that are made with fresh almond milk for those who are feeling smooth. They also have noshy nosh Raw Vegan treats if you’re craving a little more.
Should you ever be in the neighborhood I suggest you stop by and support this “be kind to the planet” establishment… it’s seriously delicious!
oh… and  more recently Kind Kreme opened another location in Echo Park. lucky them!! check out their site for more info. www.kindkreme.com

Girl date ala La Villa De Valle

March 22nd, 2011 § Leave a Comment

If you happen to plan a girl date– do something you really love. for my girlfriend and dearest foodie gal, we share the love of a delicious meal along with a heart to heart conversation. it’s these kinds of get togethers that I live for.

my gal surprised me with a special invite to a pop up restaurant held by our mutual friends Phil and Eileen Gregory, who own a wonderful bed and breakfast, LA Villa Del Valle in what as known as Mexico’s wine country in the Guadalupe Valley in Ensenada, Mexico. From the beginning it was acres of bare land but now after five or so years, this B&B has evolved into a full-fledged vineyard, offering a wonderful selection of full-bodied Vena Cava wines ( try the Big Blend).  Along with great wine, comes a great chef to prepare divine dishes to pair with the tastings. Voted the number one chef in Mexico, Diego Hernandez delighted our taste buds with a 4 course tasting menu that boasted dishes like vanilla infused cauliflower soup, geoduck tartare with avocado wasabi gelee and cucaph beer braised short rib, just to name a of few. This 4 day pop up restaurant was a huge hit leaving behind a room full of foodie hipsters with a true taste of Mexico’s Napa Valley lingering on their lips.

Note: While this pop up was in Los Angeles for smidgen of time, there location is a mere 3 hours away. Check out their site then head south of the border. http://www.lavilladelvalle.com/en/
